Currently we hold the Clinic four times a year: two in the Fall semester, and two in the Spring. We provide an on-campus training on how to help individuals file a petition for expungement under California Penal Code §§ 1203.4, 1203.4a, including how to obtain and read criminal records. To make this hands-on training more effective, we ask that you review the materials listed below before coming to the training and to register online to volunteer at the Clinic.

  1. Review the background about the issues we cover at the clinic on our primer.
  2. Review these laws.
    1. California Penal Code § 1203.4
    2. California Penal Code § 1203.4a
    3. California Penal Code § 17
    4. EEOC Policy Statement on the Issue of Conviction Records under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, 42 U.S.C. § 2000e et seq. (1982). (2/4/87)

    6. Policy Guidance on the Consideration of Arrest Records in Employment Decisions under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, 42 U.S.C. §2000e et seq. (1982)
  3. Review these California Judicial Council forms.
  4. Watch our training video on expungement rules in the State of California.
