In 1989, a group of law students, graduates and professors convened the Critical Race Theory (CRT) Workshop in Madison, Wisconsin. One of its central organizers, Prof. Kimberle Crenshaw, will provide a retrospective account of the role of the workshop in generating key concepts and canonical works in the field. The lunch address will also explore current advances, needs, and gaps in race theorizing and racial justice practice by deepening the interdisciplinarity and race conscious approach of the CRT Workshop.

A roundtable discussion that invites students, alumni, participating faculty, and practitioners to consider how race functions in normatively colorblind law schools and legal workplaces. Practicitioners working in a wide range of legal settings, from law firms to public interest organizations, will examine how colorblind norms shape legal strategies and alternative advocacy approaches. UCLA law students and alumni will provide insights on how race and racial difference operate in the law school environment under a colorblind legal regime.

After the close of the symposium, Friends and Alumni of CRS at UCLA will convene a planning meeting for UCLA School of Law alumni, to reflect on the research findings presented at this symposium. The objective of this session is to capture and incorporate our learning into our practice in law, policy and other social justice arenas. This will also be the opportunity to brainstorm and inform the agenda of Friends and Alumni of CRS at UCLA. Please RSVP to friendsofcrs.uclaw@gmail.com with your name, year of graduation, and any suggested topics for our planning session.
The annual reunion of Friends and Alumni of CRS at UCLA School of Law provides an opportunity for you to connect with friends and colleagues who share CRS' mission to think, teach, and transform. We will continue our tradition of taking a group picture of UCLA law alums in attendance. If you are new to the CRS community, this is an opportunity to learn more about the many ways in which we are working to fulfill our mission. Please RSVP to friendsofcrs.uclaw@gmail.com
