Panelist Biography
Nagwa Ibrahim is an attorney who specializes in immigration, criminal defense and civil and human rights litigation. Her cases include Guantanamo Habeas, Prisoner Rights, and Asylum cases. In addition she works with the State of California Parole Advocacy Program to provide free legal representation for individuals who cannot afford attorneys in their criminal parole proceedings. Nagwa is also a published author; her recent publication “The Origins of Muslim Racialization in U.S. Law,” was published in the UCLA Journal of Islamic and Near Eastern Law, 2008-2009 Edition.
Nagwa is a 2007 graduate of the UCLA School of Law, with a Specialization in Critical Race Studies. She is a board member of the Muslim Bar Association, which organizes programs such as Free Mobile Legal Clinics for underrepresented communities and Know Your Rights Trainings for Mosques, University Campus Groups, and other Community Groups throughout Southern California.
Nagwa has traveled to various parts of the world on humanitarian delegations including Iraq, Palestine, Chiapas, and Venezuela and is the co-director and producer of the short documentary, “Beyond the Bullet,” about the nonviolent resistance movement in Palestine.
